Ingredients

  • 1 slice bread
  • 1 large egg
  • 30 g fully cooked bacon crumbles
  • 5 g green onions chopped
  • 1 slice cheese
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter or olive oil divided
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Preheat a nonstick frying pan over medium heat and add ½ tablespoon of butter or olive oil.
  2. Cut out the center of a slice of bread to create a square frame. Set the cut-out piece aside.
  3. Place the bread frame in the pan and crack one egg into the center. Season with salt and black pepper, then gently stir the egg.
  4. Sprinkle 5 g of chopped green onions and 30 g of fully cooked bacon crumbles over the egg.
  5. Place a slice of cheese on top, then cover with the reserved piece of bread.
  6. Cook over medium heat for 3–4 minutes. Carefully lift the toast with a spatula and add the remaining ½ tablespoon of butter to the pan.
  7. Once the butter has mostly melted, flip the toast and cook for another 2–3 minutes, until both sides are golden brown and crispy and the egg is fully cooked.
  8. Remove from the pan and serve warm.

Notes

Cooking Tips:
Use medium or medium-low heat to prevent the bread from burning before the egg is fully cooked.  Serve immediately for the best crispy texture.
Ingredient Substitutions:
Bread: White, whole wheat, or sourdough bread all work well.
Cheese: Cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite melting cheese can be used.
Bacon: Substitute with cooked turkey bacon or sautéed mushrooms for a meat-free option.
Butter: Olive oil can be used instead of butter.
